What it means

What does the traffic lights ahead sign mean in NSW?

The diamond carries a black signal head with three lamps: red at the top, amber in the middle and green at the bottom. It goes up where the lights themselves are hard to see in time, around a bend, over a hill, or on a fast road where drivers do not expect signals. By the time the lights come into view, you may need to stop.

What to do

  1. 1

Lift off the accelerator so you can stop if the lights are red.

  2. 2

Expect queued cars just around the corner.

  3. 3

On a steady yellow, stop unless you are too close to stop safely.
