What it means

What does the road divides sign mean in NSW?

A single thick line rises from the bottom, then forks into two branches that run up either side of a small oval island. The road you are on is about to split around an obstacle, such as a traffic island, a median or the start of a dual carriageway. Traffic going your way uses the left branch, and oncoming traffic stays on the other.

What to do

  1. 1

Steer left early so the island stays on your right.

  2. 2

Keep to your lane through the split.

  3. 3

Look for a keep left sign on the island's nose.
