Regulatory sign · Stop and give way
Slow down and let traffic on the road you are entering go first, stopping if needed.
What it means
This one points down: a triangle standing on its tip, with a red border, a white centre and GIVE WAY in black. Unlike a stop sign it does not demand a full stop. You must slow enough to check properly, and if any vehicle or pedestrian is in or approaching your path, they go first and you wait. When the way is truly clear, you may roll on without stopping.
Ease off well before the line so you have time to look.
Stop at the line if anyone is coming, and wait for a safe gap.
Treat a broken white line painted across your lane the same way.
