What it means

What does the stop sign ahead sign mean in NSW?

A miniature red octagon sits at the top of the yellow diamond, with a black arrow rising towards it from below. It is early notice that a stop sign is just ahead, usually placed where the real one is hidden by a curve or crest, or where the approach is fast. The warning itself requires nothing, but the sign it announces will require a full stop.

What to do

  1. 1

Begin slowing straight away so the stop is smooth.

  2. 2

Check your mirror for anyone following too closely.

  3. 3

Find the stop line, then come to a complete halt behind it.
