A building on the corner hides a car in the side street

Where a corner blocks your view, slow down and be ready for traffic to appear from the side street.

What it means

A building on the corner hides a car in the side street: what is the rule?

The yellow car is coming up the main road. A grey building sits right on the kerb at the corner of a side street on the left, and a dashed sight line from the yellow car only reaches the building's edge. Everything behind it is shaded, including a white car at the give way line, ringed in amber with a question mark. You cannot see it, so you must drive as if it might pull out.

What to do

  1. 1

Ease off as you near a corner you cannot see around.

  2. 2

Cover the brake and watch the gap at the corner for a bonnet nosing out.

  3. 3

Keep left and be ready to give way or stop.
