Signalling left as you leave a roundabout

Signal left as you leave a roundabout, if it is practical to do so.

Road Rules 2014 (NSW) rule 118Asked in general knowledgeShown in 2 practice questions

What it means

Signalling left as you leave a roundabout: what is the rule?

The yellow car is already on the roundabout, travelling clockwise around the centre island, and is about to take the exit at the top of the picture. Its left indicator is blinking. That signal tells drivers waiting to enter, like the white car on the right hand arm, that it is leaving rather than carrying on around, so they can plan their own entry.

What to do

  1. 1

Turning left: signal left on approach and keep it on as you exit.

  2. 2

Going straight: no signal going in, then left as you near your exit.

  3. 3

Turning right: signal right on approach, then switch to left before your exit.
