What it means
What does the stop here on red signal sign mean in NSW?
Three lines of black capitals, STOP HERE, ON RED and SIGNAL, sit on a wide white plate inside a black border. It stands at roadworks controlled by portable or temporary traffic lights, often on a single lane stretch. The sign marks your stopping point. Those lights are real traffic lights: on red, every driver stops at the sign and waits, even if no oncoming car is in view.
What to do
1
Pull up level with the sign, not beside the light trailer.
2
Stay stopped for the whole red, however long it seems.
3
Move off on green and keep to the roadwork speed limit.
