What it means

Two cars turning right pass in front of each other: what is the rule?

At a crossroad, the plate-yellow car from the bottom and a white car from the top are both signalling right. The yellow path bends right across the front of the white car, and the white car's grey path bends to its own right across the front of the yellow one. Neither swings around behind the other, so both turns happen together and nobody has to wait for the other to finish.

What to do

  1. 1

Move up towards the centre of the intersection with your indicator on.

  2. 2

Keep your turn tight so you pass in front of the other right turner.

  3. 3

Watch for oncoming cars going straight, which still go before you.

Common questions

Do you turn in front of or behind an oncoming car that is also turning right?
In front of it. Each driver turns across the front of the other.
Do I still give way to oncoming traffic going straight?
Yes. Passing the other right turner does not change your duty to wait for cars going straight.
