Do not overtake turning vehicle sign
Stay behind a long vehicle with this sign while it turns.
What it means
What does the do not overtake turning vehicle sign mean in NSW?
Four lines of black capitals, DO NOT, OVERTAKE, TURNING and VEHICLE, fill a wide white plate with a black border. It is fixed to the back of long trucks and buses. These vehicles may need more than one lane to get round a corner, so a truck turning left can swing out to the right first and leave a tempting gap at the kerb. Do not pass on the side it is turning towards.
What to do
- 1
Hang back when a vehicle with this sign signals a turn.
- 2
Leave the gap beside it empty, even if it looks wide.
- 3
Move on only once it has completed the turn.
Common questions
- Why do trucks swing right before turning left?

- Can I pass a truck with this sign on the left while it turns?
- No. Stay behind it until the turn is finished, and never pass on the side it is turning towards.
